Between a solid campaign, multiplayer which was the first with extended character customization including the first COD to feature female characters without rubbing it in your face, a point system for balancing whichever weapons and perks you want to bring and making your own AI controlled squad, life like AI that communicates in multiplayer, fun killstreaks, ability to vault and corner peak, and 2 bonus modes: wave based Safeguard and the alien mini campaign Extinction which can either be played forever like zombies or be beaten both of which grant the means to get permanent upgrades you can toggle on or off for future play throughs.

I wondered why this game got so much hate. You can never go wrong with Raven software. But maybe with Activision you can, and I think I found out where the hate was coming from.
